Unleash joyful artistic expression with Liz Constable
Invitation to Play
An Online Creativity Journey into Spontaneity, Expression, and Artistic Play
“I’m not doing this to make my best art… I’m doing this to make my most experimental art.”
-Liz Constable
What if getting unstuck doesn’t start with a plan… but with a playful invitation?
Not to perform. Not to perfect. But to explore.
To experiment. To surprise yourself.
Whether your mind feels blank, your art feels too much like someone else’s, or you just need a breath of fresh air in your creative life—this course is for you.
Led by the wildly inventive Liz Constable of Book Arts Studios in New Zealand, Invitation to Play is a joyful, live, Zoom-based experience that encourages curiosity over control, expression over expectation, and freedom over formulas.
Liz is a creativity muse.
Let Liz hold your hand as you totally let go of the pressure to make “perfect” art and discover the joy of creative exploration in this playful, process-focused course for creatives. Designed for artists of all levels, Invitation to Play invites you to show up with curiosity, a handful of simple supplies, and a willingness to experiment.
In this LIVE Zoom-based series (don’t worry, you can always watch the recordings and PLAY right along at your convenience), we’ll guide you through creative prompts and intuitive exercises that encourage bold expression and open-ended play—freeing you from expectations about how your art should look. Each session will focus on using five or fewer materials, making it easy to dive in without overthinking or over-preparing.
A Perfect Companion to Any Willa Workshops Course
Invitation to Play fits seamlessly alongside any and all Willa Workshops classes.
Bring Liz’s suggested supply list — or don’t! You’re free to show up with whatever project you’re currently working on. Use Liz’s invitations to help unlock your creative voice, overcome obstacles, or simply open up to more play in your practice.
Where it all began in Round 1!
In Summer 2025, we embarked on this journey for the first time together.
There was some trial and error, but that’s to be expected when you try something new. Together, we laid down the groundwork for Invitation to Play. By our final session, we had found our footing and were ready to keep the fun going—we knew we had to have another season!

What went down in Round 2!
In Fall 2025, we added a special layer of inspiration:
Four guest artists joined us live on Zoom.
They played right alongside everyone else, responding to Liz’s prompts in real time. Afterwards, we got to witness their unique approaches and hear how they navigate their own creativity and challenges.
It’s a beautiful reminder that there’s no one “right” way to make art — only your way.
Liz is our Ringleader, and these were our very special guests during the Fall 2025 season!

Let’s make art without a map—and see what we discover.
What Invitation to Play Is (and Isn’t):
This is NOT a Project-based course
You won’t be building a book project, following a formula, or completing a series of assignments that all lead to a “finished” product. Each session stands alone—a playful, creative experiment designed to expand your imagination and loosen your grip on outcomes.
Think “free-range artists”
This is NOT step-by-step Instructions
Think of it as an open door, not a set of directions. Invitation to Play is your chance to unlearn rigid methods and explore fresh, unexpected approaches to making art.
This is NOT a space for perfection
You’re not here to create your “best” art—you’re here to create your most curious, bold, and experimental art. This is where mistakes become discoveries and freedom takes the lead.
This is not about making art that looks like Liz’s
The goal isn’t imitation—it’s transformation. You’ll stretch into new territory, uncovering sparks that make your art uniquely yours. And while stepping outside your comfort zone can feel daring, you won’t be doing it alone. We’ll be right beside you, cheering you on as you uncover the raw gems hidden in your creative process.

Why This Course Is Different
You'll be invited into the creative mindset of a radically different and wildly inventive artist. You’ll start by following along step-by-step. It won’t be long before you begin discovering your own style. Liz will guide, encourage, and challenge you to follow your own curiosity — not someone else's blueprint. This is a space to get weird. Get messy. Get bold. And most importantly — to get you onto the page.
