I remember seeing Mixed Media Art for the first time when I was in my early twenties and not believing that I could ever create any art that was that incredible. It all looked so beyond my artistic abilities that I didn’t even try. Decades later I was introduced to the world of online mixed media art workshops and I was smitten! I took it upon myself to make up for lost time and, I’m still learning every thing that I can about mixed media collage art. This category is very wide ranging, from handmade greeting cards, kindness cards and tag art, to Artist Trading Cards, and Postcard swapping, to handmade books and giftable art projects and more. Painted Paper Fodder: Foundations in Mixed Media Collage Art is a friendly, low-pressure online course for anyone who’s curious about making art but isn’t sure where to start. If you love the look of collage or mixed media but feel overwhelmed by supplies, techniques, or the fear of doing it “wrong,” this course meets you right where you are. Instead of focusing on finished artwork, you’ll learn how to create painted papers — the colorful, imperfect building blocks artists use in collage — while playing with color, layers, marks, and texture in a relaxed, approachable way. You’ll be guided step by step through simple techniques like stenciling, stamping, and mark-making, with an emphasis on process over perfection, so you can experiment, build confidence, and actually enjoy making art. No experience is needed, and by the end of the course you’ll have a collection of painted papers and the confidence to keep creating, trust yourself, and feel excited about where your art journey can go next.
