Meet the Fodder School 6 Teachers: Lori Siebert
Meet Lori Siebert: Maximalist Mixed Media, Color and Creative Curiosity
What happens when an artist refuses to choose just one style?
You get Lori Siebert.
Lori is the kind of artist whose curiosity seems to lead her in a dozen creative directions at once. She experiments with different styles, materials and techniques, moving easily between sewing, sculpting, drawing, painting and mixed media. Rather than being defined by a single medium or aesthetic, Lori describes herself as a bit of a chameleon, always exploring what might happen when she tries something new.
Her work is playful, whimsical and unapologetically colorful. Lori loves creating collections of work in which color, pattern and design give each piece its own personality. That sense of playfulness is one of the things that makes her work so recognizable.
And this year, we're bringing that creative curiosity to both Fodder Challenge 2026 and Fodder School 6.
Lori divides her creative life between her home studio in Kentucky and her Olika Studio office. In her home studio, she spends her time making: sewing, sculpting, drawing, painting and experimenting with new ideas. At Olika Studio, she works with clients and collaborates with her talented design team to develop creative concepts.
That combination of fine art, craft, design and experimentation is at the heart of Lori's approach.
She doesn't seem particularly interested in staying inside one creative box.
And that's exactly what makes her such a wonderful fit for Fodder School.
If you've ever looked at your art supplies and thought, I wonder what would happen if I tried this?, Lori's approach to making art will feel very familiar.
Lori Siebert's Fodder Challenge 2026 Project: Maximalist Mixed Media Birds
For Fodder Challenge 2026, Lori is taking mixed media collage off the page and turning it into something playful, dimensional and full of personality.
Her project is Maximalist Mixed Media Birds.
Lori will show you how she curates collage papers and vintage textiles to create birds with a wonderfully layered, maximalist look. You'll learn how to cut and assemble your own birds and discover how relatively simple materials can be transformed into dimensional artwork.
And don't worry if you're not a sewer. No sewing is required for this project.
Once the birds are assembled, Lori will share ideas for painting and adding final details that bring each one to life.
It's a great example of what makes Fodder Challenge so much fun: you're not simply following a project from beginning to end. You're learning how an artist thinks about materials, color, composition and possibilities, then using those ideas to create something that is uniquely yours.
Lori's Fodder School 6 Lesson: Painterly Paper Flowers Vase
If you love the idea of taking collage and mixed media off the page, you're going to love Lori's Fodder School 6 lesson.
Lori will teach you how to create a Painterly Paper Flowers Vase, beginning with handmade collage papers and mark-making techniques and ending with a dimensional paper flower arrangement.
You'll experiment with painting and mark making as you create the papers for your flowers and vase. Then Lori will walk you through the process of assembling those papers into a finished three-dimensional piece.
One of the most interesting details about this lesson is the inspiration behind it. Lori's finished piece was inspired by a real painting by one of her favorite artists.
It's a perfect example of how inspiration can travel from one medium to another.
A painting can inspire a paper collage. Collage papers can become flowers. Flowers can become a sculpture.
That's the kind of creative exploration we love at Fodder School.
