Love Your {Imperfect} Art Journal

Learn Sarah Gardner’s Layered, Playful, & Deeply Personal Approach to Art Journaling

Want to Art Journal but Feel Overwhelmed by Where to Begin?

You are not alone.

Maybe you have admired beautiful art journals online and thought: I wish I knew how to do that. Maybe you have started pages that felt awkward or unfinished.

Maybe you have stared at a blank journal wondering: What goes on the page? Where do I even begin? How do people make journals that feel layered and interesting?

Or maybe you have tried art journaling before, but felt stuck copying other people’s work without ever quite finding your own way.

If any of this sounds familiar, welcome. You are in exactly the right place.

Love Your {Imperfect} Art Journal

is a comprehensive, technique-rich online art journaling course with beloved mixed media artist Sarah Gardner, designed to help you understand how art journaling actually works.

Not how to copy Sarah’s pages.

But how to think, layer, experiment, and build pages in a way that feels personal, playful, and completely your own.

Whether you are brand new to art journaling or simply want to loosen up and grow your skills, Sarah will guide you through her process with warmth, honesty, and loads of practical instruction.

Want to Art Journal… But Feel Intimidated?

You buy journals. You collect art journal supplies. You save inspiration. You want to begin. But then the blank page happens. Suddenly everything feels confusing.

Should you paint first? Collage first? Write first? What supplies even work together? How do people create pages that feel layered without looking chaotic? And what if you mess it up?

Sarah understands this feeling completely.

That is exactly why this class exists.

Instead of teaching you to recreate the same journal spread over and over, Sarah helps you understand the building blocks of art journaling so you can begin creating pages that feel expressive, layered, and uniquely yours.

What Makes This Class Different?

Many art journaling classes focus on: “Make exactly what I make.” And while that can be fun, it does not always help when you sit down alone with your own journal.

Sarah takes a different approach.

In Love Your {Imperfect} Art Journal, she teaches:

  • How to approach the blank page

  • How to layer materials in ways that feel cohesive

  • How to combine words, collage, paint, and marks

  • How to experiment without overthinking

  • How to make pages feel personal instead of performative

  • How to trust the creative process, even when things feel messy

The goal is not to make your journal look exactly like Sarah’s.

The goal is to help you understand how art journaling works so you can begin creating pages that feel like you.

A Class That Gives You Both Skills and Permission

Art journaling can sometimes feel intimidating. There are so many materials. So many possibilities. So many gorgeous journals online making it seem like everyone else magically knows what they are doing.

This class reminds you of something important:

There is no one right way to art journal.

Pages can be messy. Layers can surprise you. Experiments can become favorites. And often, the pages you almost gave up on end up becoming the ones you love the most.

Sarah’s approach encourages curiosity over perfection and experimentation over pressure.

Which, honestly, makes art journaling a lot more fun.

The Reviews are IN!!!

I am so happy that I found you. I have been journaling all of my life... so I am always looking for inspiration and so I found YOU. You really speak right to my heart... my go to my art journal is very intuitive and absolutely not planned... my inner child is laughing with joy and playing with sparkling hands.

— Myriam

I had no experience with art journaling and in fact, no interest. All of that changed when I saw Sarah Gardner in Fodder Challenge. Her easy-going manner and beautiful art just “ spoke” to me. Her Love Your Imperfect Journal was so much fun and very inspirational!

This course is very complete, very rich. I viewed the videos several times, and I'll be back to them, for sure. Sarah covers the themes with a lot of precision, depth, with a variety of tools, materials, colors, formats, styles, etc. Also, the structure of the course and the variety of the formats of the videos are helpful. For example, shorts videos are easy to watch, pause and rewatch, while working on a spread. I love how Sarah teaches, because it's very clear, precise, step by step, encouraging and fun 🙂 For me (I've taken Sarah's lesson in FS3 also), Sarah is very good at explaining and showing how mixed media creations are built layer after layer, and her thoughts about this, literally and metaphorically, make her a great teacher."

One of my first classes in Mixed Media was Sarah Gardner’s “Love your (imperfect) Art  Journal.” What an eye-opener, never thought I was capable of making (imperfect) art. I love all her classes and she’s a great teacher. When I’m without inspiration or in doubt of what to do next, I always go back to her class. I’m so happy to have found here at the right time in my journey exploring mixed media.

Meet your Teacher!

Sarah Gardner

Sarah has been art journaling since 2007. Creativity, and art journaling in particular, helps her connect to her self. She is a firm believer that we align ourselves with our own potential and truest essence when we intentionally engage ourselves in the practice of creating…anything…

...even something bad.

Her art journal is a safe place, just for her, where she can play, experiment, and learn.  She’s learned a lot over the years:  all about different art supplies (media) and what they do; what she likes and doesn't like; how colors work together.  And she’s discovered her own creative style.  She gets joy out of the process of creating something she think is beautiful. Her creative practice is a mindfulness practice where she’s asking "what if?" She am present in the moment, finding flow, and open to whatever happens.
