Meet the Fodder School 6 Teachers: Lisa Goddard
Meet Lisa Goddard: Mixed Media, Art Journaling and Stories in Cloth and Paper
What if your art could be a place to process, play and tell your own story?
For mixed media artist, art journaler and book maker Lisa Goddard, that's exactly what art has become.
Lisa has been creating art for more than twenty years and lives in the UK near the beautiful Peak District National Park. Her creative practice grew out of a period when, after completing her fine art degree, she found herself feeling a little lost and directionless.
Then she discovered art journaling and mixed media.
Her journals and mixed media assemblages became a place to express herself, process emotions, experiment and play. Today, they remain an essential part of her creative life—a space where she can create stories and tell her own.
And this year, Lisa is bringing that love of storytelling, texture and experimentation to Fodder Challenge 2026 and Fodder School 6.
Lisa works predominantly in mixed media, embracing the freedom that comes from not being restricted to a single medium or technique.
She loves combining collage, texture, fabric and paper with splashes of color, often incorporating vintage images and found text into her work.
That willingness to experiment is a big part of what makes Lisa's work so appealing. There are no hard boundaries between paper, fabric, words and texture. Instead, they all become pieces of a larger visual story.
It's an approach that feels perfectly suited to art journaling, where the process can be just as important as the finished piece.
Lisa's Fodder Challenge 2026 Project: Scrappy Tapestry in a Bottle
If you've ever participated in one of our Fodder School art swaps, you already know how much fun it can be to make something and send it out into the world.
We're not doing a full art swap for Fodder Challenge 2026, but Lisa has found another wonderfully charming way to create art that's meant to be released into the world.
Her project is Scrappy Tapestry in a Bottle.
You'll learn some of Lisa's favorite techniques for assembling a fabric scroll—and no sewing is required!
Add a poem, quote or other bit of meaningful text to your tapestry, roll it up and tuck it inside a little glass bottle. Then you can leave your tiny artwork somewhere for a stranger to discover, give it to a friend or family member, or keep it for yourself.
We won't judge.
We already know how cute it's going to be.
Lisa's Fodder School 6 Lessons: Scrappy Tapestry Scroll Book
Lisa's Fodder Challenge project is just the beginning.
In Fodder School 6, she'll take the idea of the mini tapestry and invite you to work much larger with her gorgeous Scrappy Tapestry Scroll Book.
This project gives you the opportunity to explore even more layers of fabric, texture and mixed media techniques. Lisa will introduce you to decorative embroidery knots and pseudo-batik fabric dyeing, adding even more dimension and visual interest to your tapestry.
You'll be combining all those wonderful scrappy bits of fabric, paper and found materials into a piece that feels both tactile and deeply personal.
And if you've ever wanted an excuse to collect beautiful vintage sewing supplies, Lisa's project might just give you one. Antique bobbins, anyone?
